J-AAR Acquires Walmsley Bros. Paving
October 15, 2020

J-AAR is proud to announce we have reached an agreement to acquire another respected family business in London; Walmsley Brothers Ltd. Founded by Norm, Fred, Russ, George Walmsley in 1956, Walmsley Brothers has been a leader in large paving projects across southwestern Ontario, known for their commitment to high quality asphalt products and customer service.

"Wainsley Bros Paving Ltd. is a natural fit with J-AAR, it will allow us to expand our heavy civil construction services in Southwestern Ontario. Walmsley's paving operations will be merged and expanded into the existing roadbuilding activities of J-AAR.

The Walmsley family has built an impressive legacy of quality workmanship and reliable service over the years and we are looking forward to working with them to build on that strong foundation as we expand our commitment to being a leading provider of heavy civil construction products and services."

The asphalt material supply will become a division of J-AAR. It will draw on the support and experience of other related J-AAR groups for logistics, maintenance, quality control and manufacturing expertise.

"Through this integration, we expect to provide greater value to our clients through: improved cost, quality, scheduling and coordination; while being able to maintain the reliability, value and quality that both Walmsley Brothers and J-AAR are known for. The merger provides additional career opportunities for the team members of Walmsley and the J-AAR." says Ryan Aarts, President of J-AAR. "We are very excited to add this highly respected team along with the ability to provide asphalt products and services to our customers in Southwestern Ontario."

With open arms, J-AAR extends a warm welcome to all of the existing Walmsley Bros. employees. We are looking forward to continued growth in becoming a leading supplier of heavy civil construction products and services in Southwestern Ontario, continuing to build lasting relationships with our customers by exceeding their expectations on every project.

J-AAR is a leading provider of construction products and services in Ontario through an uncompromising commitment to quality, innovation, foresight, integrity, initiative and aggressive performance.

At J-AAR, we take pride in fostering continuous learning and industry collaboration. That’s why we recently hosted the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Grade 1 Certification, bringing together professionals from across the construction sector to enhance their skills, stay up to date with industry standards, and ensure the highest level of quality in concrete construction. A Hands-On Learning Experience The ACI Grade 1 Certification provided participants with the opportunity to undergo practical training and certification exams for concrete field testing. This event is crucial for ensuring that industry professionals are well-versed in proper testing procedures, which play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and durability of concrete structures. Under the guidance of certified ACI examiners and experienced J-AAR Structural Group team members, attendees were able to perform essential tests, including slump tests, air content tests, unit weight measurements, and cylinder preparation for compressive strength testing. These hands-on experiences help reinforce best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards. Strengthening Industry Standards ACI certifications are widely recognized in the construction industry as a benchmark for excellence in concrete testing. By hosting this event, J-AAR Structural Group and Dutch Brothers Ready Mix contributed to the ongoing professional development of industry personnel, reinforcing the importance of quality control and precision in every project. We understand that accurate concrete testing is the foundation of safe and long-lasting structures. Events like these provide an opportunity for contractors, engineers, and technicians to validate their expertise and build confidence in their testing abilities. Commitment to Excellence At J-AAR, we are committed to advancing construction standards and supporting professional development within our industry. Hosting ACI Grade 1 Certification aligns with our mission to promote education, ensure best practices, and elevate the quality of work across all our projects. We extend our thanks to all participants, examiners, and organizers who made this event a success. We look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for training and certification, helping to shape the future of the construction industry.

Investing in the future of engineering means supporting the next generation of innovators. Western Engineering Steel Bridge (WESB) at Western University exemplifies the transformative impact of such support. The 2023-2024 Canadian National Steel Bridge Competition (CNSBC) marked another successful year for WESB, showcasing their dedication, skill, and teamwork. At the competition in Québec City, Québec, WESB achieved remarkable feats, including a team record build time of 13:01 and the fastest deconstruction time. This third consecutive appearance underscored not just numerical growth, with a record 12 team members, but also a commitment to nurturing new talent, with half being first-time attendees. Sponsorship facilitates more than just competition readiness; it fosters a close-knit community of aspiring engineers and cultivates lasting bonds. As WESB looks ahead to CNSBC 2025 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering young talent and fostering innovation. Way to go WESB!
